MAJOR TRANSFORMATION OF BRENTFORD CONTINUES

Apart from Brentford Football Club moving from Griffin Park to its new 17,250 capacity Community Stadium by Kew Bridge, to be shared with London Irish Rugby Club, the town centre is also being transformed in a major way. The Brentford Project is being undertaken by Irish developers Ballymore and covers a site of approximately 4.76 hectares. Once completed, some 876 new homes will have been built along with 14,000 sq m of retail, various pubs cafes and restaurants, gym and leisure facilities and an extended Thames path with the opening up of new walkways by the river. Construction is underway with completion scheduled to take place in 2027.

Also forming part of the project in the heart of this new community area will be a major transformation of the vacant Grade II listed St. Lawrence`s Church, originally designed by Thomas Hardwick that dates back to the fifteenth century. This will become a cultural and food hub in the heart of Brentford designed to host a series of pop-up events and shows.

The construction of new residential accommodation is also continuing at Brentford Lock West with Legal and General Affordable Homes now building a substantial scheme in Commerce Road, close to the Grand Union Canal.

Moving eastwards just beyond Kew Bridge Station and opposite the River Thames is the Verdo development. This is currently under construction and comprises three residential tower blocks, Jasmine House, Ivy House and Lily House. The developer is EcoWorld International, part of the EcoWorld International Behad group that is listed on the stock exchange in Malaysia.

The transformative effect that all of this is having on the local environment and economy in and around Brentford is substantial and this is impacting on the entire area. The Bees of Brentford are certainly buzzing!
