URBAN VILLAGE IN RICHMOND GRANTED PERMISSION BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Robert Jenrick, has given approval to developers Avanton to build a £250 million urban village development located on the 4.45-acre site of the former Homebase in Manor Road Richmond.

The new urban village will provide 453 apartments and penthouses of which 173 will be affordable and the balance offered by way of a private sale. There will also be a linear pocket-park, retail, office and community space along with public and private open spaces.

The scheme was initially refused by Richmond Council in 2019 but The Mayor of London intervened and in October 2020 granted planning consent. In view of the high number of local comments, the scheme was referred to the Secretary of State who has decided that he does not want to call in the application and is content that it should be determined by the Mayor of London.

The existing premises will be demolished and replaced by four buildings designed by Assael Architecture between four and eleven storeys high. The buildings are designed around large piazzas
and tree-lined boulevards plus parking and cycle bays.

The scheme, once completed, will create a new focus to the eastern side of Richmond in a location that is both well-connected and currently under-utilised.
