PLANS FOR A £ 100M CONCERT VENUE IN WIMBLEDON

Plans have been prepared for a world-class concert hall in Wimbledon on the site of a Morrison`s car park. The architect, Frank Gehry, has previously been involved with projects including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert hall in Los Angeles.

Merton Brough Council is finalising its consultation on a plan for the future of the area which lost a 1,800 seat auditorium in 1987 when the old town hall was demolished to make way for the Centre Court shopping centre.

It remains to be seen whether the funding for this ambitious project will be forthcoming.
