PLANNING CONSENT FOR A NEW SKYSCRAPER IN PADDINGTON

Westminster Council has granted planning approval for a new 42 storey cylindrical block of 271 flats that will be 100 feet taller than Centre Point. The structure will be built alongside a second tower that will be 21 storeys tall with 155 flats. Some 67 of these flats will be classed as affordable housing.

The developer, European Land, have indicated that the design could incorporate a basement cinema and a sky garden. Apart from the 426 flats, some 2,575 sq m of commercial space will also be created.

The buildings will join the Merchant Square estate including four other new towers around the Paddington basin of which three have been completed.

Although planning approval has been obtained from Westminster Council, the plans still need to be agreed by City Hall.
